Educational Programming
For the Love of Primates provides free primate-centered STEM educational programming for learners of all ages!
Our programs can be tailored by age and type of program desired, but are centered around four main pillars:
Primate Needs:
By comparing humans and primates, we review how we are the same, how we are different, and how primates’ needs cannot be met when kept as pets in a human home. This teaches students about primate biology, behavior, and lifestyles in a relatable way.
Primate biology:
We utilize primate skull replicas and hand/foot casts to teach students about primate biological traits. We introduce basic concepts about primate evolution, and ask students to make educated guesses about what primates use their traits for in their daily lives.
Primate Conservation:
We review the ways in which students can be primate protectors by making small changes in their everyday lives. Students choose how they would like to become primate protectors, and then illustrate their actions.
Primate behavior:
Students will have the chance to get hands on and make enrichment items (either for primates or for their own pets!). They can choose to donate these enrichment items to the sanctuary, or make something that they can take home with them. We discuss how the animals use these items to express natural behaviors and how this helps improve their well-being.
Adult programming:
We also provide presentations on a range of primate and animal-centered topics to adult learners of all kinds. We can provide presentation or workshop-style programs about our sanctuary & mission, as well as primate biology, behavior, and conservation.
